WTF?!

instead of “turning japanese” as my last title suggested,…

blogger seems to have turned me dutch!

wtf?!

“I think i’m turning Japanese”.

  • well, not anymore or less than i already am.

but this godzilla’s heading home for the first time in 20 years. just a short visit, but a monumental event nonetheless.

  • being atleast 50% obsessive compulsive, obsessive compulsive, obsessive compulsive, i tend to do literally days upon days of research on whatever it is i’m about to do, be it a new purchase (three weeks reading reviews of my new soundcard) or purchasing more stock of a company i already own ( atleast three weeks of international phone calls and annual reports).

  • so yeah i’ve spent the past week on my pc researching japan. well ok i say “researching” when most of it was really reading blogs of expats living in japan. its always the best way of getting to know a country before landing there.
  • the results of my “research”?
  • its been bitter sweet to say the least. you see i’ve never really cared about what happened in japan since i never thought i’d ever be back there for any long period of time. but since i’m thinking of spending about 3-6 months there soonish, strange feelings have crept in:
  • i’m excited about arriving and not looking for the “foreign passport” line,…. for the first time in my life :P ( i dont remember much from my last trip at the age of 9).
  • i’m hyped about checking out tokyo’s underground hip hop scene!
  • i’m fearful that where i’ll be staying might only have arabic style toilets,….. how bizarre that two cultures as different as the arab and the japanese,….. still use the same toilets !

  • ummm, the instructions, however, makes it look like they use it backwards compared to here,…. unless i’ve been doing it wrong here too!
  • i know this much, despite this being a “going home” of sorts, i’ll never be a “local” since i dont even speak the language,…. but that i’m pretty much used to anyway :P
  • i suck at trains. i really dont know why cos lets face it theyre hardly the most complex modes of transport,… but i always get on the wrong one, and tokyo’s railmap truelly instills pants-soiling fear. it is offset by my greater sense of adventure tho :D

  • the london undeground aint got shit on tokyo!
  • the bullshit that comes with japanese social niceties does my head in. it always has and always will do,…. i’m betting i’ll blow up at someone within one week :P and if not i’ll wind up doing something really offensive :D oh well :P
  • japanese politics,… i’ve been reading alot about the current state of affairs there, and i gotta say, as infuriating as politics is in the middle east, japan’s politicians are really starting to piss me off, and i havent even booked my flight yet! its not that theyre anymore moronic than they are anywhere else, but it has become obvious that we have our own version of tabtabei,… simply replace religion with rascist nationalism. there was a book recently published blaming most of japan’s crime on foreigners. its so repulsive that i refuse to publicise it on my blog. it basically blamed the “foreigners” for rapes, scams and “stealing our women”.

  • no one understands when i say yes, the japanese are “polite” but not nice. perhaps they’ll get it now.
  • i might just have to drop the music production in favour of the microphone and become a political mc (rapper). i wonder if there is a japanese public enemy,….
  • the food i’m looking forward to :P

  • oh i’m soooo looking forward to it!

  • so yeah i’m thinking of getting to know the country, travelling thru it and maybe seeing what the stock market is like over there. ( watch the chinese market for a bursting bubble that might affect the world soon :P )

  • someone mentioned that i ought to do some english lessons to make a bit of cash, cos lets face it, its bloody expensive there, and ok, english lessons are probably the easiest thing i could do to make some lunch money :D
  • KD5- 10 an hour apparently,….. dude, thats just easy money!
  • then again a coke probably costs something stupid like KD1,……

  • i’m definately getting myself a camera phone for this trip :P

(oh and hold your goodbyes :P i’m not going till march-ish, and just being back in kuwait for a week has given me a load of bitching and moaning material i have yet to blog about :P )

  • i just realised that the titles of my last two posts ended in “ass!”

  • make that three……

Gina Loring kicks some serious ass.

if you missed her trio performing at the Al Kout mall last night, you have one last chance to catch them at the Sharq mall tonight.
1800 – 2100 somewhere in the Sharq mall.
get there early cos i’m pretty sure word has already spread, and besides sharq’s traffic is always shitty on a thursday night anyway.
i’ll admit i didnt expect much, since acts performing in a mall are normally nothing to write home about especially since mall acoustics tend to really suck ass.
but goddamn!
shes got an amazing voice, and supremely moving lyrics and poetry.
the beatboxer, joshua silverstein was brilliant too. at times i actually forgot that there wasnt a drumkit. ( beatboxers are people who use their mouths to generate percussion and rythm).
most impressive was the keyboardist who managed to get the meager crowd clapping in time. considering that most of the crowd were of the geezy variety who just happened to be in the mall trawling for girls to harrass, i think you’ll agree that that was quite a challenge.
there ws also a guest slot where a local kuwaiti guy beatboxed with silverstein. while hes got alot of work to do on his delivery, as some of his parts were too low, too loud, or simply out of time, i think it was nerves that got the better of him. still well done dude.
if you already have plans tonight, blow them off and go watch the show.
you can always do your drinking, sheesha-ing, weekend bullshitting next week :P
one thing i did find funny was this:
the rap gangsta wannabe kids were there, with their ‘tupac had sex with armani and went back to 1995′ look. i have no idea how the band managed to perform without bursting into massive fits of laughter!
i’m pretty sure the irony of ghetto-ized and hood-ized wannabe’s in one of the worlds wealthiest nations didnt escape gina loring’s attention.
she did, after all do a track that went “fancy things dont mean a thing” .
definately one of the best performances i’ve seen anywhere, the band were tight as a big thing in a really small place that you cant squeeze out of even if you covered yourself with washing liquid.
man i suck at writing reviews,…. so much for writing for rolling stone. :(
go see them, and buy their cd’s to support real talent in this world. if nothing else they’ll want to come back simply off the sales of their cd’s.
i got both gina lorings compilation and silversteins beatbox ep, both of which i’m sure will have a permanent place in my mp3 player.
actually i think i might go again tonight :P .

mobile blogging kicks ass!

free wifi where ever you go in malaysia!
it fucking rocks :P

right now i’m on my way back to kuwait. just being able to surf and mess about until you board the plane makes a huuuuuge difference.

i wonder what the guy looking over my shoulder will think if i surfed for some hardcore porn :P

or maybe i should visit alqaeda.com :D

muahahaha!

so yeah heading back to kuwait for a quick one month stay. i’ll definately be looking forward to some nice dry weather, driving my own car,…

oh and cheap and tasty hummous!

thats really the only thing that i miss really :P

i gotta learn how to make it, so reminder to self,… knock on palestinian neighbours door to learn about making hummous.

full flights get annoying sometimes, but flying into the middle east is always interesting cos youre bound to sit next to someone who’s on their first trip, be it business, transit, or pilgrimage.

half the time tho, especially if youre flying in form SE asia, you might wind up sitting next to a first time maid overseas person who doesnt speak english. it gets depressing when you cant even warn them of whats in store for them if theyre unlucky.

but enough social commentary,…. its 230am and i feel like brushing up on alqaeda’s latest airplane disaster plans,….. or perhaps a neonazi site would be in order :D

see you in kuwait.
