at the start of the global stock market sell off during october, a number of stock exchanges closed their doors in an effort to halt the crash. russia and indonesia were two of a handful who thought this might be a good idea.

as it turns out, it wasnt exactly the brightest move.

after closing for a day or so, they both opened only to crash even harder than they had before.

so they were closed again. but this time for a few more days.

and it crashed even more after it opened.

russia closed its market 20 times in the month of october alone,… and it didnt do anything to stop the slide.

i would argue that it actually made things much much worse, and here’s why:

traders are already losing money, but traders will generally still keep money in the market to some degree, because they know that if it does really get very very bad they can always pull it out tomorrow,….. ever the optimists.

when you close an exchange you basically say “no, you cant take it out until we say you can”

alot of traders are playing with borrowed money, infact the majority of traders are playing with borrowed money. so by locking up the bourse you are locking up their cashflow which is what leads to the massive sell out the day the bourse opens up again.

closing the bourse could have the effect of making the market more volatile rather than less.

what? close it so traders can regain their senses?

no such thing.

the panic may be greater.

its like this,….

you’ve got the choice of either

a) being cut a thousand times and slowly bleeding to death, with the hope that you might survive, but you know you will probably die,

b) we’re gonna slice your head off in one swift move.

which one would make you kick and scream more?

there is only one law on the markets, and that is that traders and investors are not rational.

so stupid idea or not?

As america votes, many people around the world are voting too.

its like global american idol, only in this reality show the one that bullshits the best gets a planet earth to play with for 4 years. but atleast on this show, we dont have to put up with hours upon hours of ryan seacrest.

unless youre an E! channel viewer, in which case i hope you enjoyed E!’s 10 best dressed candidates of all time,…

hoover had such pizzazz,… apparently.

here in the middle east, the term “stupid americans” has been used for decades to describe anything worth bitching and / or moaning about; the presidents that are chosen, the wars in the world, the price of tea in china, boys dressing like girls and vice versa, girls acting like boys and vice versa, pollution, traffic pollution, bad taste in music pollution, tv shows that are too sexy, tv shows that are too religous,…. and the list goes on.

basically, if you stubbed your toe on the coffee table it was america’s fault for inventing coffee tables and forcing the rest of us to buy them through their super-secret-mossad-CIA agents at IKEA. ( bah! the swedish, they are just americans who didnt leave to america! ).

this years campaign has been incredibly interesting in that it has managed to capture the attention of even those who would normally not give a shit in this region,…. and before, you couldnt really blame them,…

“who’s running this year?”

“some rich old white guy, and some other older richer white guy.”

“ahh,… i hope the they choose the white guy.”

it was like boxing,… only in negative.

this year the election turned techni-coloured, and techni-genitalled.

and this year the conversations were something like this:

“dude! (or arabic equivalent) they got a black guy running this year!”

“pffft he’ll never get in, the old white guys will not allow it to happen”

fast forward 21 months:

“dude! he’s gonna get in”

“oh i bloody well hope so!”

bloody foreigner: ” so youre supporting obama?”

“of course!”

bloody foreigner: “how comes? i would have thought the republican values would be closer to your traditional values.”

“because he is like us, he will understand our plight being a black in america.”

bloody foreigner: “umm but youre not a black american in america”

“he will understand our struggle better than some rich old white man”

i could have brought up the fact that he was this area’s equivalent to america’s rich old white man but that might have been a tad impolite,….

bloody foreigner: “fair enough, but what about the issues, there is alot that the democrats stand for that is against your traditional values like taxes, afghanistan, gay marriage and abortion” ( this sentence makes me sound alot more coherent than i actually am in person.)

” well the important thing is that he wants change, and that is what the world needs!”

bloody foreigner: “and,…?”

“and nothing, if i were in america i would vote for him because he wants to change the way the world is, mccain will just be another bush, and we dont need another bush”

bloody foreigner: ” and how is he going to bring about this “change” ?”

“he just will, just being a black man in the white house will change everything!”

which i found funny, cos apparently all obama has to do is just be black,…. easy enough, only hes not, being only half black,…

yeah they didnt think it was as amusing as i did, so they just stared at the foreigner who was chuckleing to himself like a madman.

but there you have it.

that is all that matters apparently.

as for the pro-mccain-ers in this region, they basically echo the pro-mccain-ers in america, plus some pretty politically incorrect racial comments, which actually arent considered that politically incorrect over here.

people the world over have overwhelmingly thrown their support behind the candidate that has bullshited the best. the one who said he will bring “change” but not really how, which is actually both of them as mccain is also calling for “change” and not saying how,…. but only after he realized that this marketting tactic did wonders for obama.

buy this can of perfume, it will make you sexually attractive to the opposite sex,… we just hope you believe us and dont ask us to prove it.

so the whole world this time around is standing up and taking sides.

and the whole world, just like america, has been suckered into the rhetoric of one party or another.

perhaps it is fitting that the rest of the world doesnt get to vote, because it seems that even tho the message being regurgitated is specifically designed for the “stupid americans” everyone else in the world is swallowing it and taking sides in equal measures.

but then again, its not all that surprising is it?

after all we eat at the same restaraunts, we wear the same clothes, we drive the same cars, we listen to the same music and we watch the same tv shows.

so apparently the “we” that is the rest of the world, have proven this year to be just as capable at making the same character based decisions as our supposedly dimmer north american friends.

if we, the world, get who we want into the white house, then who do “we” call “stupid” from now on?

this blog endorses Stephen Colbert,…

COLBERT 2012!!!

go on i dare you

go on i dare you

or more specifically, your search queries.

the search terms that lead people to my site never fails to amuse me. so this is my way of saying thank you for adding numbers to my stats 😛

1. bacon: – 406 hits

bacon comes from pigs, is really yummy with eggs, and can be fatal if you eat enough of it.

which is pretty easy cos yes it does taste that good!

this bacon is also pretty good too, but i cant attest to the taste of him:

you’ll have to ask his wife about that.

and then there is francis bacon who was quite good with a pack of crayons. he did this:

2. hamilton pool:- 279 hits.

no idea what this was exactly but after googling: – apparently its a nature preserve in texas. heres the link youre probably looking for: hamilton pool.

gorgeous aint it?

3. cacaroches:- 144 hits.

to kill cacaroches you will need:

1 frying pan,

4 bags of 1kg flour,

3 onions,

2 tins of tomatoes and

a pound of apples.

the next time you see a cacaroche,….

the global market numbers from ONLY today, monday the 21st january.

The Toronto Stock Exchange opened more than four percent down, falling by 543.13 points to 12,193.13 and taking around US $68 billion off the market’s value. A drop of 6.6 percent last week wiped out gains made by the market last year.

Mexico tumbled by 4.77 percent on opening

Argentina and Brazil fell by 4.64 percent and 6 percent respectively.

The Dow Jones industrial average, which was not trading Monday, finished Friday 0.5 percent down at 12,099.30.

It has now lost more than 8 percent of its value since the year began.”

me thinks it will be time for the skunk to go shopping overseas soon >:D

why should you care?

if you get anything from your government, like a salary, or a pension,…

or if youre insured for like health, life, home insurance, car insurance etc,….

then the market is where your money is.

its where your insurance company keeps your cash, its where your government’s fund for future generations keeps its cash, its where your company’s investment division invests your pension, and more importantly, your company’s investment department is the most important bit of the company that you work for, so if theyre not having a good time, chances are that their crap time will trickle down to you sooner or later.

the market is even where your bank is keeping your money. its not sitting in cash in a little vault in the nbk basement,…. its already virtual, and its virtually not there, but in the market “trying” to make a return so that they can pay you the interest they owe you.

doesnt seem like a bunch of silly numbers now does it ?

KSE TIME: 12:38:57

incase your math is as bad as mine, thats a just a lil over KD250 million that changed hands today.

just under US$ 1 billion.

and right after the central bank cuts rates again by 50 basis points?

i think not.

the foreigners are coming.

and the middle east is now officially up for sale!

and it aint the khaleejis or the other arabs.

i’ll let you in on a lil secret,….

they aint white 😛

but they too will come, as will the browns and the blacks,….

and they will wind up owning well over 30% of your market.

and this deal will be considered tiny by then, and so too will the mtc move a few months ago.

which is how it should be.

free market capitalism at its best 😛

god save us capitalist pigs!

following on from my last post,….

altho it might have made things look pretty rosy, and they are pretty much rosy,… thats not to say that you wont bump heads from time to time. and bumping heads is especially annoying when its family members heads involved.

fear of the old vs fear of the new.

fear of repeating history vs fear of losing history.

being overly cautious vs wanting to move too fast.

at times you simply have to take things into your own hands and hope for the best.

so here goes nothing…. 😛

since Blue Ice Envy headed back to france a few days ago life has slowly been getting back to normal.

which kinda sucks.

towards the last couple of weeks we basically ate atleast one meal a day together.

there was hardly a minute where i wasnt either pissing my pants laughing or getting frustrated at having to explain a joke 😛 , which she took seriously….. oyyyyy……..

she can be a handfull at times but then what woman isnt? ( yes, Blue “handfull” is a nice way of saying “pain in the ass” 😛 )

still she cracks me up, and now that life has gotten a bit more pedestrian i miss the silly girl’s antics.

is there something about bacon that i’ve missed?

for the past 4 days, my most visited post, and the top search term referring thingy has gone to this 5 line post about me running out of bacon:

bye bye bacon 😦

and we’re not talking 10 or 15 hits,….

today: 48 views of that post

yesterday: 53

the past four days it has consistently been in the 30-40 views/day range!

and this blog just barely gets 75 visitors a day, out of which probably 5 of you are regulars and only another 5 semi regulars.

i’m betting bacon will be the new black for the fall season. McQueen and Lagerfeld will be parading bacon autumn coats matched with prada displaying crispy bacon shoes and armani will come out with “PIG – for men – the scent that drives her hogwild” .

or theres going to be a world wide revolution soon where we discover that pigs have only been using their lazyass mud wallowing images as a cover while they secretly plotted to take over the world.

and since i’m an ardent supporter for the consumption of copious amounts of pork products i must be on their hit list.

oh and happy ramadan to those that are fasting, and happy Wednesday to those of you that arent. aint the weather grand these past couple of days?
